How to heal
an anxious
attachment style

Not a book you finish. A workbook with 150+ prompts, five parts, and a shadow work journal at the end — built on the premise that you cannot read your way out of a pattern your nervous system learned before you could speak.

Walk the gap ↓

the five parts

Written, not read.

The order matters. It refuses to hand you techniques before you have written down where the pattern came from — which is the step most attachment content skips entirely.

01

Understanding anxious attachment

Origins, signs, triggers. Prompts that make you name your own rather than recognise someone else's.

02

The power of your subconscious mind

The beliefs and the self-concept keeping the cycle fed. This is the part that does the actual work.

03

Techniques to rewire your brain

Visualisation and affirmation, practised daily. Rehearsal that shifts what feels familiar — no more, and that is enough.

04

The law of detachment

Releasing the outcome without leaving the relationship. Routinely misread as being told to care less.

05

Your shadow work journal

Jungian prompts in six sub-chapters. The longest section, and the one you will avoid.

interactive · the gap

You sent a message.
Nothing came back.

This is the whole of anxious attachment in one ordinary evening. Move through it at your own pace and watch the story build — then read what the journal would have you write instead.

what the mind says

Sent. Fine. Completely normal to send a message.

what the journal asks

Before anything happens: what do you already expect to happen, and who taught you to expect it?

what the evening costs

Nothing has happened yet. That is the point — the gap is where the pattern lives, not the reply.

on the shadow work section

The part you will avoid.

What it asks

To meet the part of you that double-texts, tests, over-explains, and goes quiet to be chased — and to ask what it was protecting rather than how to delete it.

What it is not

An inventory of your faults. Jung's shadow holds the disowned need, not the defect; a session that ends in self-criticism has gone somewhere else entirely.

Why the order works

Triggers first, beliefs second, techniques third. A rewiring practice aimed at a pattern you have not named yet is a nice habit attached to nothing.

Where it stops

It is a self-therapy journal, and it says so. If a prompt opens something that does not close again, that is information — take it to a therapist rather than to the next page.

community insights

What the pages teach.

Distilled from the workbook in our own words. Vote for the ones worth writing down.

"This is a journal, not a book. Nothing happens on the pages you only read."

resonated with this

"Anxious attachment is not too much love. It is a nervous system that learned closeness was unreliable."

resonated with this

"The spiral runs on a belief you have never said out loud. Find the sentence and the behaviour makes sense."

resonated with this

"Reassurance ends the panic and feeds the pattern. That is why it has to be asked for less, not better."

resonated with this

"Detachment is not indifference. It is releasing the outcome while staying entirely in the relationship."

resonated with this

"Shadow work means meeting the part of you that protests, tests, and withdraws — and asking what it was protecting."

resonated with this

"Visualisation and affirmation are rehearsal, not magic. What they change is what feels familiar."

resonated with this

"A journal is a good companion to therapy and a poor substitute for it, and knowing the difference is part of the healing."

action steps

Five to write. Five to live.

The set-up steps are the journal's first two parts, reduced to what you can do this week. The daily ones are what happens in the gap, where no notebook is open.

01

Write your trigger list before you need it

The unanswered message, the changed tone, the plans that shift. Eight lines, specific. You cannot spot a spiral from inside one — you spot it because you already wrote down what starts it.

I'll do this
02

Name the sentence underneath

For each trigger, finish: 'this means…'. 'They are pulling away.' 'I am too much.' The subconscious section works on these sentences, so they have to be on paper first.

I'll do this
03

Trace one pattern back to where it was useful

Not to assign blame — to date it. A strategy that made sense at seven and runs at thirty-seven is old software, not a personality.

I'll do this
04

Pick your fixed journalling slot

150+ prompts do not survive being done 'when you feel like it', and the feeling that drives you to the journal is the anxious one. Same time, whether or not the week was calm.

I'll do this
05

Write what a secure version of you would do

One page, present tense, unglamorous. This is the rehearsal script the rewiring chapter keeps returning to, and it is far more useful than an affirmation you do not believe.

I'll do this
06

Put a gap between the feeling and the message

Twenty minutes before you send the second text. Not to suppress it — to find out what the urge does when it is not obeyed immediately.

I'll do this
07

Ask for evidence before asking for reassurance

One question: what do I actually know, versus what am I forecasting? Reassurance stops the spiral for an hour; evidence shortens it for good.

I'll do this
08

Run one shadow prompt a day

Five minutes, one prompt, honest. The point is not insight every time — it is that the part of you that protests gets heard by you before it gets acted on.

I'll do this
09

Practise detachment on something small

A reply, a plan, an unread message. Release the outcome deliberately once a day on low stakes, so the muscle exists when the stakes are real.

I'll do this
10

Log the outcome, not the fear

One line each evening: what you dreaded, what actually happened. Weeks of this is the only argument that ever convinces an anxious nervous system.

I'll do this

“The spiral is not a character flaw. It is an old strategy that worked once, still running long after the danger left.”
