RACI Matrix

A one-page responsibility chart that settles the question every project stalls on: who actually owns what? Name the project, list your tasks down the left and your people or roles across the top, then mark each cell with one letter — R (Responsible, does the work), A (Accountable, owns the outcome), C (Consulted, gives input first), or I (Informed, kept in the loop). A four-part legend prints across the top so nobody has to remember what the letters mean. The discipline that makes it work is one A per row: every task needs a single owner who is answerable for it. Too many A's and no one owns it; too many R's and it stalls in committee. Print it filled to circulate a decision, or blank to divide the work up live in the room.

Best for
Ending the 'I thought you were doing that' problem by pinning a single owner to every task before the work starts.

Step 01

What are you dividing up?

Step 02

Lay out the roles, tasks, and marks.

Up to six roles and eight tasks. Keep the order consistent — task line 1 pairs with marks line 1, and each mark maps to a role left to right.

R, A, C, or I — one per role. Use a dash to skip a role, or leave a cell blank to write it in later.

List your tasks and roles, then mark each cell R / A / C / I — or print it blank to divide it up live.
