The Radar Chart

A one-page radar chart — also called a spider chart — for rating several things at once and seeing the balance between them in a single shape. A list of scores is hard to feel; a shape isn't. Name three to eight axes, mark each from 0 at the centre to 10 at the outer edge, and join the points. The silhouette tells the story instantly: a big, even shape means you're strong across the board, while a lopsided, spiky one shows exactly where you're thin and which axis is quietly dragging the rest down. Because every dimension shares one picture, it's the fastest way to compare many factors, to weigh two options against the same criteria, or to track how a shape fills out over time. Use it for a life balance check across health, work, money, rest and relationships; a skills audit before a review; a team or project health check; a product or vendor comparison; a habit or wellbeing snapshot month to month. Type a score after each label and the shape is drawn for you; leave the scores off to print a clean web and plot it by hand.

Step 01

Name what you're rating.

The thing being assessed across all the axes — a skill, a project, your month, a product.

Step 02

List the axes.

One axis per line, 3 to 8 of them. Add a score after a pipe to plot it — Health | 7. Score every axis and the shape is drawn for you; leave scores off for a blank web to fill in by hand.

One axis per line, 3 to 8. Add "| 7" after a label to plot its score.
