The Tier List

A one-page tier list — the S/A/B/C/D/F ranking gamers use, turned into a decision tool. Faced with a pile of things that all feel important, a flat list is useless: everything looks equal and nothing gets cut. A tier list forces the opposite. Six coloured bands run down the page, from a green S tier for the genuinely elite down through A, B, C and D to a red F tier for what should be dropped, and every contender has to land in exactly one. That constraint is the whole point — 'pretty good' isn't a tier, so you're made to decide whether something is truly best-in-class or merely fine, and the act of sorting surfaces judgements you'd otherwise leave vague. Rank the tools competing for your home screen, the subscriptions draining your card, the habits worth keeping, the goals for the quarter, the features on a roadmap, the books on your shelf — anything where you have too many options and too little honesty about which ones actually earn their place. The finished sheet reads at a glance: what's in S gets your time and money, what fell to D and F is a permission slip to quit. Print it blank to write your own contenders and rank them by hand, or fill it in and pin it up as a decision you've committed to.

Best for
Ranking a messy pile of options into S-down-to-F tiers so the best rise and the rest get cut.

Build your tier list

Step 01

Name what you're ranking.

The field of contenders — habits, tools, goals, options, anything competing to matter.

Step 02

Fill the tiers.

One line per tier, top to bottom: line 1 is the S tier, then A · B · C · D · F. List the things in each tier however you like. Leave a line blank to keep that tier empty.

One line per tier, top to bottom — line 1 is S, line 2 is A, and so on down to F.
