What the gerbera daisy means

Gerberas are native to South Africa and were named for the German naturalist Traugott Gerber; Gerbera jamesonii was collected near Barberton, which is why it is also called the Barberton daisy. Because gerberas became florist staples only in the 20th century, most of their meaning is borrowed from the broader daisy tradition of innocence and purity, along with a modern sense of cheer. Their saturated colors and clean shape make them a common get-well and birthday flower. Like any flower meaning, these are associations, not rules.
