Community OS / Social Map

A social map shows where belonging is strong, thin, missing, or waiting.

Draw the real network: close ties, weak ties, groups, local places, contribution channels, and repair backlogs.

Educational only. Not legal, medical, mental health, emergency, safeguarding, stalking, harassment, domestic safety, immigration, employment, or professional advice. Use local qualified support for safety, crisis, legal, harassment, domestic, safeguarding, employment, housing, immigration, or mental health concerns.

Field notes

Social Map turns private intention into social practice.

A social map is not a popularity score. It is a picture of where connection already exists and where the system is thin. Close ties carry trust, weak ties keep the social world warm, groups provide repeated contact, and local places create recognition.

Most people try to fix loneliness with a single heroic friendship. Community OS looks at the whole field: who knows you, who sees you repeatedly, where you contribute, where you receive, and which relationship is waiting for repair.

01

Separate close ties from weak ties.

Both matter, but they do different jobs: depth, warmth, information, opportunity, and everyday recognition.

02

Map rooms, not only people.

Groups, third places, teams, classes, and neighborhoods create the repetition individual willpower cannot maintain alone.

03

Name thin spots without shame.

A map is useful because it shows where the next small experiment belongs.

Common problems and experiments

Make community practical enough to test during a real week.

I cannot think of anyone to list.

Experiment

Start with rooms: work, neighborhood, school, gym, faith, hobby, family, online communities.

What to watch

People often become visible after places are named.

My close ties are far away.

Experiment

Add a rhythm for them and build weak ties locally at the same time.

What to watch

Depth and local texture solve different problems.

I have many contacts but little support.

Experiment

Mark which ties allow asking, honesty, practical help, and repair.

What to watch

Quantity hides function unless the map asks what each tie can hold.

Prompt to try

One social question is enough for the next move.

Which part of my social map is carrying too much weight, and which part is underbuilt?

7-day protocol

The social map audit

  1. 01 List three close ties.
  2. 02 List five weak ties you could greet or message lightly.
  3. 03 List two groups or rooms with repeated contact.
  4. 04 List two local places where recognition could grow.
  5. 05 Mark one relationship needing repair or maintenance.
  6. 06 Choose one invitation and one contribution.
  7. 07 Review whether the map became warmer after one week.

Community checklist

Mark the practice, not your social worth.
