HourLife 1.3: read the week back, one day at a time

HourLife 1.3 adds Day by day: a week or a month laid out one day at a time, with what each day held. It also sits inside the weekly review, so you can read the week back before you score it.

What changed

  • Day by day lays out a week or a month one day at a time, with what each day held — habits, tasks, focus sessions, journal entries, workouts, sleep and more.
  • Give routines, habits, checklists, projects, goals and more a cover photo of your own. Covers follow you to your other devices through iCloud.
  • Health-linked habits no longer flip back to unfinished when your day starts after midnight.
  • Turn off the daily writing prompt in Journal settings if you’d rather start from a blank page.
  • Choose whether the tab bar shows each tab’s name: Automatic, Always or Never.
  • Lists no longer hide their last rows behind the tab bar.
  • A refreshed app icon.

Read the week back before you score it

A weekly review asks how the week went, and the honest answer is often “I don’t remember Tuesday.” By Sunday the week has flattened into the one or two things that went wrong.

Day by day now opens inside the weekly review, so before you rate the week you can read it back: each day with what you logged in it, from the habits you kept to the focus sessions you finished. Open a day to see everything in it.

It also lives in the Library on its own, for looking back without doing a review — and there you can switch from a week to a month when a week is too close to see a pattern.

The smaller things

Covers are for the pages you open every day. Pick a photo from your library for an evening routine or a goal and it sits at the top of that page — and on the routine’s card on Today.

The Health fix is for anyone whose HourLife day starts after midnight. If your day begins at 3 AM, a late night still belongs to today — but opening the app in that window could count only the steps taken since midnight and mark a finished habit as unfinished again. It now counts the day you’re actually in.

Read the week before you plan the next one.
