The Cold Storage Inventory

An inventory of everything you paused and meant to come back to — the second draft, the instrument, the shelving that needs one bracket, the language you were going to learn properly. You write the thing, how long ago it stopped, and why; the sheet does the part you'd rather skip. It reads the elapsed time however you wrote it — three weeks, eighteen months, March, 2021 — and files each item onto one of four shelves by age alone: Fresh (under a month), Cooling (one to six), Frozen (six months to two years), and Freezer burn (over two). You never choose the shelf, which is the whole point: a paused project hides its age better than anything else you own. Anything you couldn't put a date to drops into an unlabelled tray at the foot of the page, and a closing strip names the single oldest thing in storage and how much of the inventory is past the point where thawing is honest.
