The Lost Property Office
A claim ledger for the things you've misplaced that were never objects — a habit that used to be automatic, a friendship that went quiet, handwriting you'd recognise, the ability to sit through a film without reaching for anything. Each one is filed as a numbered docket with what went missing, when it was last seen, and who handed it in, and every docket keeps an empty claim box, because a thing isn't recovered until you go back for it. The page then does the part nobody enjoys: a second, much shorter register at the foot for what actually came back, when, and what it took to collect — and a recovery rate showing the ratio between the two. Most things are not taken from you. They are put down somewhere, and then not picked up again.
