Tend

Your numbers, visits and notes.

A quiet place to look after your health over the years, in your own words, on your own phone.

Tend's Today page at its usual size: the date, what is up next, a line to write on, and the day's reminders by the hour
Usual size
The same Today page with larger type and more room between things
Larger type

The record you already keep, in one place instead of five.

Readings on a paper slip, a letter in a drawer, a list of tablets in Notes, a question you meant to ask. Tend holds what you choose to write and brings it back when someone asks "when did that start?" or "what are you on?"

Your numbers, over the years.

Blood pressure, resting heart rate, waist, cardio fitness, HbA1c, and LDL, in your units. Written in from a check-up or a lab report, or brought in from Apple Health with Tend Complete. Nothing is ever overwritten, so a correction stays visible.

If a number has run differently from your own earlier readings, Tend says so once, plainly, and reads nothing into it. Whether it is worth mentioning is yours to decide.

Tend's Health page: a note that blood pressure has run higher than your own earlier readings, what you are on, the next visit, and your numbers with their history

Walk into the visit ready.

A visit in Tend has two halves. Before: the questions you want to ask, what to take with you, and, if you want them, an alarm on the day and an entry on your own calendar that follows the date if it moves. After: what was said, what to watch for, and the papers that came home, scanned in on the spot.

A question you never got to ask carries on to the next visit.

A coming cardiology follow-up in Tend: the date, doctor and place, its reminders, and a checklist of what to bring

Every medicine, and what it is for.

What you are taking now, the dose, and the reason, in your words. When one ends, it moves to what you no longer take and keeps its dates, so the history is there when a new doctor asks.

Tend's Medicines page: the medicines being taken now, each with its dose and what it is for

How the parts of you are, in your own words.

What you noticed and when. A journal, a head-to-toe pass over your body, and what you have learned about your own health. Type it, or say it out loud and it becomes words on the phone.

Tend's Noticed page: short dated notes in plain words, such as ankles puffy by the evening, and a knee that gave way on the stairs

The shorter list is the honest description.

Most health apps want a number from you every day and give you a grade back. Tend wants nothing from you. It records and reminds. It never recommends.

  • No medical advice, no interpretation of your results, no treatment suggestions.
  • No score, no streak, no grade, and no counter of what you have not done. A habit keeps a row of dots, and a missed day is just a day.
  • No nudge to open it every day. It waits until you have something to write.
  • No account, no sign-up, and no server of ours holding your health.
  • No ads and no tracking. The one other company it talks to is RevenueCat, and only about a purchase: never what you write, never anything from Apple Health.
Tend's Habits page: walks, reading and glasses of water, each with a row of dots for recent days and no streak count

Time, in your own record.

Tend shows you what you wrote and when, and leaves the meaning to you. A month at a glance, a stretch of it written out in sentences with Tend Complete, and one index that names every part of the app rather than badging it.

The app adjusts. You don't squint.

The slider at the top of this page is the idea, borrowed. In Tend it moves type, spacing, and tap targets together, and the whole app follows your iPhone's text size too.

Typing or speaking
Wherever there is a line to write on, say it instead. Speech becomes words on the phone.
Three styles, seven colours, three faces
A page, a ledger, or a cabinet, in the colour and typeface you find easiest to read.
Face ID, if you want it
Off by default. Turn it on and Tend covers itself whenever you put the phone down.
Tend's Calendar: September with marks on each day for what was kept, filters by kind, and the chosen day's page beneath
A month, with a mark for each kind of thing you kept.
Tend's Everything here index: search, then every part of the app by name, each row saying what is behind it
Every part of Tend by name. No counts, no badges.

On your phone, and nowhere else.

Tend does not sync. Your readings, records, and notes stay on the iPhone you wrote them on, and the only other copies are your iPhone's own backups and the ones you make on purpose. The whole policy is short enough to read, and it is on this site and in the app.

Your record should outlive any app, including this one. A spreadsheet of your readings, and the whole of Tend as one file a new phone can read back in: both free, always. With Tend Complete, a handoff pack gathers the essentials in your own words as a PDF for whoever helps you. Each is made on the phone and goes wherever you send it.

Storage
Your iPhone only. No server of ours, and Tend puts nothing in iCloud. Your iPhone's own backup, to iCloud or a computer, may include Tend along with everything else on the phone; that is set in the phone's settings. A visit you add to your calendar goes wherever that calendar keeps its entries.
Sign-in
None. There is nothing to create and nothing to hand over.
Apple Health
Off unless you turn it on. Read-only, and only when you ask: blood pressure, resting heart rate, waist and cardio fitness; your steps, for a habit that counts them; and, on the You page, your date of birth, sex, blood type, height and wheelchair use. Nothing is written back.
Your data
A spreadsheet or an archive, any time, free. Delete everything in one place, with no undo.

Free. Complete, if you want more.

Tend is free to download, and everything you write in it stays free to read, edit, search and export, whether or not you ever pay. Tend Complete is optional: it adds the things made from your record, and new lines in four of the seven private diaries.

Prices are in US dollars; the App Store shows them in your own currency. Tend Complete is bought through Apple. The monthly and yearly plans renew until you cancel them in your Apple Account settings; the one-time purchase never renews. If a plan ends, nothing you wrote is locked away. Purchases are covered by Apple's standard licence agreement.

Tend is an independent app from the people who make HourLife. It is not one of the mini apps and it shares nothing with them: no purchase, no account, no data.

Quiet on purpose, and staying that way.

Tend is for adults looking after their own health, at their own pace. It will never tell you what your numbers mean, and it will never tell you off for a week you did not open it.

Version 1.0 · Coming to the App Store

Tend holds your health. HourLife holds the rest of your life.

Plans, goals, habits, and a journal for everything that is not a doctor's business, in a private Life OS that syncs through your own iCloud account.
