The Waiting Room

A board for the things other people owe you — the counterpart to the Promise Book, which holds what you owe. Five numbered waits run down the page, oldest at the top, each with a name, a since-when, an escalation ladder of three chase boxes, and a line for the move you make without them. The ladder is the whole point: a wait with three ticks against it is not a wait any more, it is an answer. Below the board, a Seen register holds what finally came through and how long it took, because next time the same person is on the board that number is the only evidence you have. The tinted panel works out the one figure that matters — how many waits have been chased twice or more — and names the oldest still sitting there, so you cannot pretend you do not know which one to act on first.

Build your waiting room

Step 01 · The board

Whose board it is, and when you'll sweep it.

Step 02 · The waits

What you're waiting on, and from whom.

Oldest first. The chase count fills the boxes on the ladder. The last pipe is the line most people skip — write it anyway.

Step 03 · Seen

What finally came through.

How long it took is the only evidence worth keeping. Nothing you type is saved.

Step 04 · Print

Paper and download.

Write the waits oldest first — the top of the board is the one you have been avoiding.
