Your first week in Calendar

  1. Go back a day

Tap a day in the week strip. The chips under the date count what it holds, and the timeline lays it out under "All day", "Morning", "Afternoon" and "Evening".

  2. Log what you missed

On that day, tap +. "Log Habit", "Log Workout", "Mood Check-in" and the rest are dated to it, and each entry lands at the time you set.

  3. Read the week back

Open the … menu and tap "Day by day". Each row is a day, and tapping one opens its entries by morning, afternoon and evening.

Every step, in detail
  1. 1 Open Calendar. It starts on today, with the week strip at the top and today's timeline below it.
  2. 2 Tap a day in the week strip, or use the arrows beside the month name to move a week at a time. Tap "Today" in the … menu to come back.
  3. 3 Read the chips under the date, such as habits, tasks and sessions, then scroll the "All day", "Morning", "Afternoon" and "Evening" sections.
  4. 4 Tap + to add to the day you are on. On today or a past day it logs a task done, a habit, a workout, a mood check-in or a journal note. On a future day it adds a task, plans a workout or writes a journal intention.
  5. 5 To see Apple Calendar events, open … → "Settings" → "System Calendar Connection", tap "Connect iOS Calendar", then turn on "Show system calendar events".

Ten sources, one line

Calendar keeps nothing of its own. It reads what you log across HourLife and sets each entry down at its time, in the colour of the module it came from. Here is one Monday, pulled apart source by source, and the single line you see.

Sample · one Monday, 6 AM to midnight

6 AM 9 Noon 3 PM 6 9 12 All day Habits Tasks Focus Hours Workouts Journal Mood Energy Health Apple Calendar read-only, off until you turn it on Calendar MORNING AFTERNOON EVENING 6 AM 9 Noon 3 PM 6 9 12 All Habits Tasks Focus Hours Workouts Journal Mood Energy Health Apple Calendar MORNING AFTERNOON EVENING

The lane colours are the ones the app gives each module, and an Hours entry wears its own activity’s colour. Moments are dots and spans are bars; the dashed square is an all-day task. On the phone, the same line reads top to bottom, one card per entry, with “All day”, “Morning”, “Afternoon” and “Evening” counting their items.

The week strip

Above the timeline, the week, with up to six dots under each day: habits, tasks, focus or workouts, journal, Apple Calendar events and care visits. Tap a day to open it. The line under the strip says where you are.

Mon, Oct 5 · 7 days ago

Tap an entry

Every card on the timeline opens a short menu. Apple Calendar events and care visits are read-only, so they open none of these.

Highlight
Keeps the entry as a highlight, with a star on the timeline. “Remove highlight” takes it back.
Edit time
Moves the entry to the time it really happened.
Open in module
Opens the habit, task or entry where it lives.
Delete entry
Removes it from its module, not just from the timeline.
Undo completion
On a habit, a checklist item or a task you ticked off.

Behind you, log it. Ahead of you, plan it.

The + button reads the day you are on. A day gone by takes what happened, a day to come takes plans, and today takes both. Every sheet is dated to that day, and each entry lands at the time you give it.

A past day

Log for this day

  • Log Task Done

On a day other than today, each item carries that day’s date too, so you always know where the entry will land.

A month, one row a day

“Day by day”, in the … menu, reads a week or a month back. Each row is a day: small tallies by type, and the number of things you logged on the right. Here every entry is one square.

What counts

  • Everything logged that day, across habits, tasks, focus, journal, gratitude, mood, energy, workouts, sleep, Hours, meals and more. A checklist tick counts with its habit.
  • “Week” lists every day up to today, and a later day once something is planned on it. A day with nothing in it reads “—”.
  • “Month” lists only the days that hold something.
  • Tap a row for that day’s entries, under “Morning”, “Afternoon” and “Evening”.

The weekly review opens with the same rows: “Read the week back before you score it.”

Take a day, a week or a month with you

Two items in the … menu turn a period into text. “Export…” writes a file. “AI Summary” writes the same text under a prompt and copies it, so you can paste it into an AI chat of your choosing.

Pick “Day”, “Week” or “Month” and step back with the arrows. Turn off any of the nine sources you would rather leave out. The preview shows exactly what will be written.

“Include AI reflection prompt” adds a short prompt after the activity, so the file is ready to hand to a chat.

AI Summary

The same period as text, under a prompt you can edit, with a character count. “Copy” puts it on your clipboard. HourLife sends it nowhere; where it goes is up to you. The prompt for a day starts as:

Use this HourLife summary to help me reflect on today. Tell me how today’s scheduled work aligns with my long-term goals, where I am drifting or reacting, what I should adjust before the day ends, and the single highest-leverage next action.

Week and month have prompts of their own. Change any of them in Calendar’s “Settings”, under “Prompts”, or keep an edit with “Save as Default”.

Apple Calendar, read-only

Calendar can show the events in your Apple calendars beside everything else. It reads them, and that is all: it never changes one, and never copies one into HourLife.

To see your events

  1. Open the … menu in Calendar and tap “Settings”.
  2. Tap “System Calendar Connection”, then “Connect iOS Calendar”, and allow access.
  3. Turn on “Show system calendar events”. It is off until you do, so connecting alone shows nothing.
  4. Keep or turn off “Include all-day events”, for birthdays, travel days and the like.

Events show on the timeline and as a dot in the week strip. They cannot be highlighted, moved or deleted from HourLife.

Schedule

“Schedule”, in the … menu, opens “Day Timeline” for the day you are on: “All Day”, “Unscheduled Tasks” and “Anytime” habits at the top, then an hour grid from 6 AM of what has a time, with a red line at the current time on today.

Tips

  • Day by day also sits inside the weekly review, under "Day by day: Read the week back before you score it." Go through last week's days before you score it.
  • Highlighting a timeline entry is the quickest way to keep the moment that mattered, without writing anything new.
  • Moved a workout or logged a habit at the wrong time? Tap the entry, then "Edit time".
  • "Restore recommended defaults", at the foot of Settings, puts the chips, the dots and all nine sources back.

Questions

About Calendar day to day.

  • Does HourLife change my Apple Calendar?

No. It asks for calendar access and reads your events, nothing more. They show on the timeline but cannot be edited, highlighted or deleted from HourLife, and they are never copied into it.

  • I connected Apple Calendar but see no events. Why?

Showing them is a separate switch, and it is off until you turn it on. Open … → "Settings" → "System Calendar Connection" and turn on "Show system calendar events". "Include all-day events" decides whether birthdays and travel days come with them.

  • Can I log something I forgot yesterday?

Yes. Pick the day in the week strip and tap +. On a past day it offers "Log Task Done", "Log Habit", "Log Workout", "Mood Check-in" and "Journal Note". On a future day it offers "New Task", "Plan Workout" and "Journal Intention".

  • What does "AI Summary" send, and where?

Nothing. It writes the day, week or month as text with your prompt above it, and copies it for you to paste into any AI chat yourself. You can edit the prompt, or save your own as the default.

  • What can I export?

A day, a week or a month, as .txt, .md, .pdf or .json, from the sources you pick. The preview shows the exact text, and the PDF is typeset from it.

  • What counts in Day by day?

Everything logged that day, across habits, tasks, focus, journal, mood, energy, workouts, sleep, Hours, meals and more. A checklist tick counts with its habit. The week view lists every day up to today; the month view lists only days with entries.

Works with

Where Calendar hands off to the rest of HourLife.

  • Today

The calendar button in Today's header opens Calendar on today.

  • Hours

Hours entries appear as blocks with their length and range, such as "22m · 6:30–6:52".

  • Focus

Each focus session sits on the timeline, and the chips count them.

  • Habits

A habit appears at the time you checked it off, and "Log Habit" records one for a past day.

  • Tasks

Tasks due on a day sit on its timeline, and + adds a task or logs one as done.

  • Journal

Journal entries show with their word count, and "Journal Note" or "Journal Intention" writes one for the day you are on.

  • Highlights

"Highlight" on any timeline entry keeps it as a highlight, starred on the timeline.
