Grouped by who has itEverything still out sits under “BY PERSON”, one card per person or organisation, each row with its age and a bar filling toward its follow-up day.

Follow up on your dayOn the follow-up day an item moves into “Follow up needed”. “Follow up” logs what you did and when to chase next, and the bar starts again.

Resolved, with the time it took“Mark Resolved” closes it, keeps an optional note on how it ended, and records how many days you waited.
Your first waiting item

Tap “+”
Say what you are waiting for under “WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?”, and who has it under “FROM”, a person, an organisation, or someone else.

Set “SINCE”
The day you sent or asked for it. The day count and the follow-up both start from there.

Choose “Nudge me on”, and tap “Save”
It starts 14 days after “SINCE”, the Settings default. Pick another date, or “Never” for no follow-up at all.
Every step, in detail
- 1 Tap "+" and fill in "What are you waiting for?".
- 2 Under "From", choose "Person", "Organisation", or "Other" and name who has it. With People turned on, "Person" picks from your contacts.
- 3 Set "Since" to the day you sent or requested it.
- 4 Check "Nudge me on". It starts at your Settings default, 14 days after "Since" unless you change it; pick another date or choose "Never".
- 5 Optionally link it to a task or project under "Link to (optional)", then tap "Save".
The list, on a day you drag
An item turns due on its follow-up day and moves up into “Follow up needed”. Everything else sits under the person or organisation you are waiting on, with a bar that fills toward the next nudge.

The day only moves forward, as days do; Reset goes back to October 20. In the app, Follow up asks for a note and a next date. Its date starts on the item’s old follow-up date when it has one, even a past one, so here it always sets a week from the day shown.
One item’s follow-up clock
The bar runs from the last nudge, or from the day you started waiting, to the next follow-up date. It turns gold at three quarters and amber when the day comes. Logging a follow-up restarts it.

Settings
“Nudge me on” starts at the default you pick here: 7, 14 or 30 days, or Never. “Follow-up reminders” is off until you turn it on, and then a notification arrives at 9 AM on each follow-up day. “Show overdue banner” and “Show recently resolved” change the list above.
Tips
- Set "Since" to when you actually asked, not when you logged it. The day count and the nudge date both start from it.
- Write what they said in the follow-up note. When you resolve the item, the timeline shows the whole exchange.
- If a task can't move until someone replies, link it here. The task then shows "Waiting:" with the person's name under it, and tapping that line resolves the wait.
Questions
About Waiting day to day.

Will I get a notification when it is time to follow up?
Only if you turn on “Follow-up reminders” in Settings, which is off at first. It notifies you at 9 AM on the item’s follow-up date. Overdue items can also appear on Today as a nudge card with a “Follow up” action.

When does an item count as overdue?
When the days since “SINCE” reach its follow-up day. It then leaves “BY PERSON” and moves into “Follow up needed”, longest waiting first.

Can I record that I chased someone?
Yes. “Follow up”, or “+” beside “PROGRESS TIMELINE”, asks for a progress note and the next follow-up date. Saving counts the follow-up, adds the note to the timeline, and starts the wait again toward the new date. The note is required.

Can I wait on an organisation rather than a person?
Yes. “FROM” offers “Person”, “Organisation” and “Other”. An item saved without any name is grouped under “No one yet”.

Can a task show that it is blocked on someone?
Link the task under “LINK TO (OPTIONAL)”. The task then shows “Waiting:” with the item and who has it, and tapping that line marks the wait resolved.

Does Waiting sync between my devices?
Yes. Items and their timelines sync through iCloud with the rest of HourLife.

People
You can pick a person from People as the source, and their page has a "Waiting for" card that lists their items and adds a new one with them already filled in.

Tasks
A linked task shows "Waiting: <item> from <name>" under it in Tasks, and tapping that line marks the wait resolved.

Projects
A linked project shows as a badge on the waiting card, and the project's task rows show the same "Waiting:" line.

Today
Overdue items can appear on Today as a nudge card with a "Follow up" action, and you can add a Waiting widget that shows open and overdue counts.

Compass
Compass lists waiting items under "Approaching" when their follow-up date is near, and under "Needs attention" when you haven't followed up in a week or more.
